Sita Kund, a sacred tank a few kilometres from Sitamarhi, is honoured as a spot linked to Sita — by tradition a pond where she bathed, its water held to be purifying. A cluster of small temples and bathing steps surrounds it, busy on festival days with pilgrims completing the round of local Sita sites.
Together with Punaura Dham (her birthplace) and Haleshwar Sthan, Sita Kund anchors the Sitamarhi leg of the Ramayana circuit — the Indian counterpart to Janakpur across the border, where the story moves on to her wedding with Rama.
