In the town of Sitamarhi stand the Janaki Sthan temple and the sacred Sita Kund — the pool and shrines that mark the town’s own claim, beside nearby Punaura Dham, as the place where Sita appeared from the earth. The Janaki temple and its surrounding kunds (Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughan) draw pilgrims through the year, swelling on Ram Navami.
With Punaura, Janakpur and the Parikrama sites, Sitamarhi forms the living devotional landscape of Sita across the India–Nepal Mithila.
