Kabar Taal, near Begusarai, is the largest freshwater oxbow lake in Asia — a great crescent left behind by the wandering Gandak. Recognised as a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 2020, it hosts hundreds of plant and animal species and is a winter haven for migratory birds along the Central Asian flyway.
