Near Kamtaul lies the Gautam Asthan — by tradition the hermitage of the sage Gautama, husband of Ahalya and one of the founders of the Nyaya school of logic. A sacred kund and shrine mark the site, close to the Ahilya Asthan where Rama is said to have freed Ahalya from her curse.
The place sits at the root of Mithila’s reputation as a land of reason and debate — the soil from which Udayana and Gangesha’s logic would one day grow.
