Matihani, in Nepal’s Mahottari district, sits on the Mithila Madhya Parikrama and is associated with the Matkor ritual, in which sacred soil is gathered for the re-enactment of Rama and Sita’s wedding. It is one of many places where the shared, cross-border culture of Mithila is lived on the Nepali side of the line drawn at Sugauli.
