Kapileshwar Sthan, near Madhubani, is among the most revered Shiva shrines of the district — its lingam said to have been installed by the sage Kapila, and long favoured by the Darbhanga Raj. Mondays and the month of Shravan bring crowds of devotees, and Mahashivratri fills the temple to overflowing.
It is one of the chain of ancient temples that thread the Madhubani countryside, binding everyday village life to the worship of Shiva.
