Phulparas, a subdivision in eastern Madhubani district, is one of the market and administrative towns of the Kamala country — the belt of villages that lives by, and warily watches, the Kamala river as it spills from the Nepal hills onto the plain.
Like its neighbour Ghoghardiha, it anchors the long tail of small Maithil settlements that the district’s better-known names — Madhubani, Jhanjharpur, Benipatti — tend to overshadow, but which together make up the real fabric of rural Mithila.
