Phulhar, near the Nepal border, is woven into the Ramayana: here, at the Girija Sthan temple of the goddess Bhagwati, Sita is said to have come to worship and to have first set eyes on Rama as he gathered flowers in the garden of Pushpavatika. A stop on the Mithila Madhya Parikrama, the village draws pilgrims retracing the geography of Sita’s story.
