Maithili Thakur (b. 2000), from Madhubani, is among the most visible young ambassadors of Maithili culture. Trained in classical and folk music by her father, she built a vast online following singing in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Hindi and many other Indian languages, and consciously foregrounds Mithila’s traditions — its songs, its festivals and its Madhubani art — in her performances and videos.

Honoured with India’s National Creators Award (2024) and a wave of recognition, she represents a generation using new media to keep an old language and its music vividly alive.
