Sujani began as thrift and tenderness — mothers stitching soft quilts for newborns from layers of worn cloth, outlining simple figures in running stitch. Over time it grew into a narrative textile art, its surfaces filled with village scenes, deities and stories, close in spirit to Mithila painting but worked in thread.
Centred on Madhubani and Muzaffarpur, Sujani today gives many women both an artistic voice and a livelihood, carrying the imagery of Mithila onto cloth.
